Shopaholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella: I only read this one because I could borrow it from Christine. It was basically the first book all over again. I spent the whole time wanting to slap the main character and yell at her, ‘Grow up, damn it! Stop being a victim and learn some discipline.’ Avoid these books.

Yes! Yes! I completely understand. Rebecca - or whatever her name was - was like a 14 year old girl. It was v. depressing.

It was almost like Bridget Jones.

Posted by: Violet on June 28, 2003 06:26 PM

I LOVED THE BOOKS! THEY WERE SO FUNNY AND YET COULD BE TRUE! I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE THE BOOKS MADE INTO A SCREEN PLAY. IT WOULD BE LIKE CLUELESS WITHOUT THE 90210 ZIP CODE TO BACK HER UP! I RECOMMEND THE BOOKS FOR A FUN QUICK READ!

I think these books are hilarious and entertaining. British humor cracks me up and the trilogy should definitely be a movie.

I loved the three books from S. Kinsella and I think the new one "Can you keep a secret?" is very funny and exciting too!

Don't take these books so serious - they are just really, really funny!!! Maybe Rebecca (yes, that was her name) sometimes behaves like a child, but: thats so sympathetic (or how do you spell this word? because I'm german and don't know exactly)! I'm looking forward to the next Kinsella book translated into german!!

I have read sophies can you keep a secret?. After not reading for years this was the first book i had read in a long time. I loved it, Emma was great i loved the story and all characters. After that I was really wanting to read another book by the same author as i loved the book. I have just finished the 3rd book shopoholic ties the knot and it fantastic. I need another book by the same author any suggestions?. Is there anymore that continue on from these books? the same characters? Anything Id really like to read another.

Oh and i also think this would make a great movie, Rebeccas so like a normal everyday girl. With a bit fun in her life. Getting the job she wants, making mistakes BIG mistakes, and falling in love and the problems and complications there is. So defently Im defently FOR a movie. These books are fun and if you think shes a little childish and complain about these books simply dont read them, these books are not for you they are for light hearted people!

The Shopaholic trilogy is kinda funny and really BRILLIANT !!! Two thumps up for Sophie Kinsella. I just finish reading the latest one, "Can You Keep A Secret" and it is superb !!! Really can't wait for her next book.

i thought these books were truly a work of genius. shopping and girly bits aside, there really is some brilliant psychology to pick up on. dont we all go to these, often extreme, lengths to cover up for our purchases and weakness on the high street?! truly marvellous books by a skilled writer. easy to read - a few spare hours is all it takes to have a real insight into the mind of a shopaholic! a favourite on the book shelves of women and gay men worldwide! craig

Just read "Can you keep a Secret" - was my 3rd Kinsella book and I so enjoyed every one of them! They are what I'd recommend for anyone who is down in the dumps because they act like an immediate pick-me-up.
Loved the relationship between Becky and her best friend in the Shopaholic series and Emma & Jack in the Secret. Shouldnt they be made into films? maybe with Jennifer Aniston or Renee Zellwegger in the lead?

Sophie Kinsella is outstanding. Her books are great fun to read! I'm currently reading Shopaholic ties the knot and I can't wait to read

I loved the shopaholic triology, I just couldn´t stop laughing. I really liked Becky and could absolutely feel her pain when the bills came in. Been there, done that :)
I would love to see a movie made from these books.

Posted by: Linda on November 14, 2003 05:25 AM

i defintly looooved the books but making a movie out of it would be the WORST idea. movies suck compared to books for one thing and you wouldnt be able to capture the true essence that is becky bloomwood.

Posted by: colleen on November 20, 2003 02:54 PM

This book is awesome. At first, I hated the character Rebecca but then I started to like her, I like the way she changed her life and proved to other people that she can do better. I think Hollywood should make the film, it would be so great!!!

Posted by: Bella on November 22, 2003 06:22 AM

Although i had just read the first book out of da 3.. i think it's great! It actually captures the feelings and excitement of girls as we dive our hands into all the designer branded goods!

Posted by: Andrea on November 26, 2003 04:03 AM

yes...I was attracted by this book at the first glance in bookstore...Rebecca is so funny and..uhm..yes...very childish..but I think cos of the this ...that's the cute characteristic she owns and the point attract me so much...
so desperately to see it become the movie...

I just got done reading the series and I laughed out loud several times. A friend of mine is also reading the books! I would love to see all of them in a movie format. I am going to read Secret next!

The 3 Shopaholic books are fabulous! Can't wait to read more by Sophie Kinsella.
Hope these are made into movies, I'd be first in line at the box office.

After debating for two weeks whether I should buy Confessions of a Shopaholic, I decided to buy it. I instantly fell in love with the book and the rest in the series. I loaned the books to my friend Julie, and we are obsessed with them. They are so hilarious. I can't wait to read her new book Can You Keep A Secret? and I also can't wait for Sophie Kinsella to finish the 4th in the Shopaholic because I can't wait to see what happens next to her. Great read...definately worth buying!!!!

I would like to get an e-mail on this book from someone. This book has got to be one of the best books i have read in a while. This book is also one of the first funny books I have read too. I love this book and i hate when people ask me if "I'm" a shopaholic. sometimes I am but I don't think i'm as bed as Rebecca Blowmwood!!!

Posted by: Charlotte emmons on January 6, 2004 07:44 PM

I didn't like the book that much when I first read becasue I found the main character, Rebecca very irritating but I still kept reading it and finally finished the three books. They were great. I didn't like the first book that much but the second and the third were very good. I'd had a really good time reading it.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! IT WAS WITTY AND FUN. IT MAY NOT BE A NOVEL YOU READ FOR CONTENT OR A "MOVING EXPERIENCE", BUT IT'S DEFINATELY A GREAT BEACH READ! ALTHOUGH I FOUND BECKY A LITTLE IRRATATING AT TIMES, I LOVED THE SERIES! PLEASE MAKE THESE (ALL 3) NOVELS INTO A FILM. IT WOULD BE SUCH A BLOCKBUSTER HIT!!! ALSO, PLEASE LET THERE BE A "SHOPAHOLIC ON HER HONEYMOON"

Posted by: megan on May 13, 2004 07:48 PM

It is true she is a little childish but it doesn't matter. The whole point is that she can find a way out of her problems. Plus it was not the first one over again at all. I think Sophie Kinsella is a brilliant author! And anyways if you don't like her books stop reading them and posting mean things about them on the internet.

Just finished reading all 4 books! I can't wait for the 4th Shopaholic book to be published in the US on Sep. 28 - Shopaholic and Sister. It has been published in the UK on June 1.

These books are great fun to read. I really think there should be a film made out of them! I really want to read her next book - "Shopoholic and Sister!" All in all these books are great to read, full of humour and excitement!

Hi I first came across Shopaholic when I was just about to go on my first ever proper holiday i.e on my own with no adults about I was going to Crete, so I was looking for some light reading to take away with me I happened to pick up and shopaholic and lets just say whilst i was there I didn't want to put it down. As soon as I got home I went and bought the whole lot and have read them all including the new one Shopaholic and sister. I totally agree with everyone here that a movie should be made it would be brilliant.
